bug goo

i take this camping and hiking all the time, and it really does the trick. i bring a big jar of it to a week-long music festival every year, and everyone just loves it. it also smells a heck of a lot better than deet.

ingredients:

3/4 c shea butter
1/4 c olive oil
essential oils:
eucalyptus
tea tree
patchouli
citronella
peppermint
rosemary

to make:

melt the shea butter and olive oil

add about 30 drops of each of the essential oils

mix well, pour into a jar to cool
you could use a base aside from shea butter and olive oil. any carrier oil, or coconut oil would do. i use the shea butter/olive oil combination because the consistency is nice when it’s complete - it’s solid at room temperature (meaning less mess) but melts easily. it’s also wonderfully moisturizing. keep in mind if you use a harder butter (like cocoa) you’d want to use more olive/carrier oil to make it easier to work with as a finished product.

  1. Yay! I found it!! I've been wanting to make some of this because bug spray is SO AWFUL!! and if you read the label you're not supposed to spray it on children under 6 years old... so.. thats awesome. this is a much better alternative for Roni pants!
